Carolyn F. Latham

Carolyn F. Latham, 87, of Center Point, passed away at home on Thursday, August 26, 2021.

She was born on May 12, 1934 in Terre Haute to Lonnie and Anna (Bennett) Wiram. She married Robert Wesley Latham on May 27, 1954. He preceded her in death in 2010.

Carolyn and her husband, Robert, devoted their lives to Christian ministry. Although Robert was the designated “pastor,” Carolyn was a devoted partner in all their efforts. She served alongside him in several Indiana churches––Milltown, Cory, Brownstown, and Carbon and in Grapevine, Texas. In the 1960s and early 1970s, the Lathams also served as missionaries in the Philippines. Wherever she lived, Carolyn gravitated toward the children around her and loved leading church programming for and outreach efforts to them. In later years, she worked in local government, serving first as support staff for the City of Brazil, then in the Clay County Auditor’s Office.

Carolyn was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Her sister, Rosemary Duling of Terre Haute, died only 8 days prior to Carolyn, on August 18, 2021. The two were close throughout these recent years, especially as one by one, the other Wiram siblings passed on before them. The large family, whose parents migrated to the Terre Haute area in the early 20th century from Kentucky, includes the following: Kenneth Wiram, Chester Wiram, Franklin Wiram, Hubert Wiram, William Wiram, Joe Wiram, Jonathan Wiram, Virginia Guthrie, and two siblings who died in childhood.

Carolyn was a devoted mother to Larry, Steve, and Angela Latham, who survive her. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren whom she dearly loved: Braden Latham-Jones, Brianna Latham, Marissa Sipp, Andrea Latham, and Natalia Latham. Three great-grandchildren were also her pride and joy: Emerson Sipp, Faith Sipp, and Hollis Robert Latham. Having come from such a large family, she is survived as well by many cousins, nieces, and nephews who are scattered throughout the United States.

Carolyn’s life will be remembered and celebrated at 1 pm on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the Brazil Nazarene Church 1002 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, Pastor Marlin Betts officiating. Visitation will take place at the church prior to the service, beginning at 11 am. Burial will follow services at Wilkerson Cemetery. Due to the increasing incidence of COVID-19 in our community, the family requests that masks be worn by all attendees. Condolences and fond memories may be shared at www.frenchfuneralhome.com.
