Albert ‘Jay’ McClain

Albert “Jay” McClain, 78, of Waynetown passed away at 8:38 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, at home, following several months of failing health.

Jay was born Aug. 1, 1943, at Danville, Illinois, son of the late Albert and Mary Jane Lough McClain.  He married Patricia Baker on Aug. 7, 1991, at Durango, Colorado. She survives. 

Jay graduated from Richland Township High School in 1961 and resided in Waynetown since 1964.  He was a life-long farmer and retired from RR Donnelley & Sons after 36 years as a platemaker.

He enjoyed farming and traveling. He and Patricia wintered in Florida where he played baseball and enjoyed riding his bike. Jay loved to ride his motorcycle … several years ago, he rode to Wisconsin to meet a friend and they rode to Route 66 then to California. He rode home alone, often traveling more than 500 miles in a day. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following college football and basketball. On the family farm, he had a basketball court in the barn haymow where some interesting times were had with his friends! For several years, Jay and some classmate buddies would travel to Latrobe, PA to visit and play golf with classmate Pete Luster, who lived on Arnold Palmer’s golf course and was his pilot. 

Surviving, along with his wife Patricia, are: two daughters, Laura McClain of Darlington and Dr. Amy Becker of Speedway; sister Alice Jane Miller of Crawfordsville; step-children, Vicki (Rob) Jones of Crawfordsville, Debra (Chris) Stokes of Ladoga, Barry (Vanessa) Brown of Crawfordsville, Bob (Alona) Brown of Florida and Mike (Cinnamon) Walton of Linden; grandchildren, Chelsea Webb of Carmel and Joseph Becker of Speedway; 10 step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jay’s family will receive guests 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with a memorial service following at 8 p.m. Pastor Mike Parks will officiate. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Jay’s family prefer memorials be directed to the Autism Society of America given in the name of Joseph Becker.
