Carl Wayne Dismore, 89, of Veedersburg passed away peacefully at his residence Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, with his family at his side.

Carl was born April 25, 1932, at Pine Village, the son of Francis Elmo and Minnie Lucille (Hopkins) Dismore. He married the love of his life, Catherine Perry, on July 31, 1959. Together they built a beautiful life raising their daughters, traveling and making many memories. Later in life, they earned the title of The World’s Best Grandparents, as they attended every event, had numerous sleepovers, traveled the country, and became an extra set of parents for their grandchildren. Carl and Catherine were married for 54 years.

Catherine preceded him in death Aug. 4, 2013. He also is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Ida Mae (Bud) Hershberger; daughter Cathy (Walton) Sanders; and son-in-law Jay Dark.

Surviving family include: daughter Carla Newnum, Veedersburg; brother Lee Roy (Shirley) Dismore, Veedersburg; five grandchildren, Brittany (Michael) Burns, St. Augustine, Florida, Doug (Lana) Walton, Veedersburg, Candace Dark, Columbus, Ohio, Clarissa Allen, Avon and Reuben (Hali) Dark, Kingman; 12 great-grandchildren, Noah, Paige and Addison Burns; Kenli Walton; Marshall and Brooks Allen; Ruby, Rosy, Rory, Rooksten, Ridge and Ralsten Dark.

Carl graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1951. He served his country in the US Navy 1952-1956 during the Korean War, on board the USS Hector and the USS Ajax; he was also stationed in Kodiak Alaska. He served in the US Navy reserves 1956-1960. He was a HAMM radio operator from his years in the Navy. He was employed by Wabash Valley Telephone Service in 1956; he worked for the telephone company for a total of 34 years, being plant manager in Frankfort 1971-1973; retiring from AT&T in 1990.

Carl was a member of the Sterling Christian Church, American Legion Post #288, Moose Lodge of Frankfort, NRA Organization and many hunting groups. Carl raised and hunted coondogs and beagles for 75 years. August 15 was always a special day for him as squirrel hunting season opened. He also enjoyed deer hunting in Montana, pheasant and quail hunting in South Dakota and fishing trips to Canada. He was also a regular at his favorite restaurant, The Beef House, for 57 years. Bob and Bonnie Wright, Mary Deck, Phyllis Bowling, Allison Acorn and Alice Stonebraker held a special place in his heart and his life. His other hobbies included traveling, reloading ammunition, being outdoors, watching Westerns, eating ice cream and spending precious time with family and friends.

Carl will be missed by many but it’s comforting to look back on his life and know it was one filled with success, great friendships, so much love, and enough beautiful memories to treasure until we can see him again.

Private family funeral service will be held at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with burial at Kingman Fraternal Cemetery, with military honors provided by the US Navy and American Legion Post #288.
