Randy A. Rhine

May 31, 1960 ~ September 21, 2021

Randell A. Rhine “Randy”, 61, of Cloverdale, passed away on September 21, 2021, after a year-long journey through cancer. He was surrounded by family in his final moments.

Randy was born to Cecil “Wayne” Rhine and Hattie McCoy Rhine on May 31, 1960, and grew up in Indiana with his five siblings. His boyhood homes included Burlington, Lafayette, Crawfordsville, and Harmony, Indiana, and he was a 1978 graduate of Van Buren High School.

Randy began his career working at the family-owned Rhine’s Market in Cloverdale. While there, he recognized his love of service – and that passion drove him to become a beloved and recognized leader across Indiana’s hospitality and tourism industry. During his career Randy managed The Walden Inn, in Greencastle and worked for Tour Indiana, in Indianapolis. In 2008, Randy began his employment with Indiana State Park Inns at the Canyon Inn at McCormick’s Creek State Park, in Spencer. For the last 8 years Randy served as General Manager. He was a friend to all who visited the inn and had a way of making guests feel welcome and special. He loved and respected the people he worked with – and that sentiment was returned many times over.

Throughout the years Randy received many awards, two of his most cherished include the 2010 Inn Employee of the Year and in 2018 he received an Indiana State Park’s Tulip Tree Award – the organization’s highest award to an individual.

Randy had an eye for detail and strived for perfection in all he did – from hosting events at the inn to planning family meals to decorating for the holidays. He had a kind heart and a deep love for his family. His creativity, enthusiasm, and warmth will be remembered by all who knew him well.

Randy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rita Pearson Rhine; son Antony Rhine (Jennifer) and grandson, the apple of Randy’s eye, Wyatt Rhine; son Sean Rhine (Kayla) and grand-pup Tinsley; mother, Hattie Rhine Moore (Stanley); mother-in-law, Elaine Graves Pearson; siblings, Rick Rhine (Tracy), Rod Rhine (Tammy), Retha Rhine Hunsicker (Mike), Rusty Rhine (Kim), Renita Rhine Elliott (Brian); sister-in-law, Mona Pearson Smith (Keith); brother-in-law, Alan Pearson (Nikki); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Wayne Rhine; father-in-law, David Pearson; and grandparents, Letha Livingston McCoy, Glen McCoy, Kathryn Spann Rhine Fellows, and Cecil Rhine.

Friends and family will gather to remember the life of Randy Rhine on Sunday, September 26 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Whitakers Funeral Home: 201 N Lafayette St, Cloverdale, IN 46120. The funeral services will be held on Monday, September 27 at 11 a.m. and Randy will be laid to rest in Cloverdale Cemetery.  Condolences may be made at www.whitakerfuneralhome.net.
