Carolyn J. Wilson

APRIL 8, 1936 – SEPTEMBER 25, 2021

Carolyn J. Wilson, 85, of Paris, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Carriage Crossing Senior Living of Paris. She was born on April 8, 1936, to Homer and Thelma (Daugherty) Mason.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Wilson, of Paris; daughter, Donita Thomas and husband Jeffrey of Paris; grandson, Grayson C. Thomas; brothers, Jim Mason and wife Sue, and Bob Mason and wife Jean; niece, Lori Mason-O’Brien; nephews, David Mason, Dennis Mason, Randall Mason, and Richard Mason; brother-in-law, Carlos Phipps and a niece, Rebecca Phipps.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert Allen Wilson; and infant child, James D.; sisters, Catherine Wright and Betty Phipps; niece, Candice Mason; and a nephew, James Leland Mason, Jr.

Carolyn graduated from Chrisman High School and from Indiana State University with her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse who spent many years working as an occupational health nurse for Zenith, Pittman Moore, and Columbia House. An active member of her community, Carolyn was dynamic in starting Faith in Action in Paris and was an advocate for community healthcare and eldercare.

Not one to let the grass grow under her feet, Carolyn loved to travel. She loved exploring new places, even going to Finland. She went to New York City to watch Broadway performances for over 20 years. Always preferring to sightsee on foot, New York City and Downtown Chicago were some of her favorites. There wasn’t a horse-mounted police officer that she didn’t go out of her way to meet and take a photo with. Carolyn and Bob hiked parts of the Appalachian Trail together and she hiked in the Grand Canyon many times. She loved to ride motorcycles. She and Bob would travel the country on two wheels and later on a trike, enjoying the beauty of the open road together and making new friends along the way.

In accordance with Carolyn’s wishes, she will be cremated and laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park’s Chapel of Memories. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
