Lois Beach Davis

Sept. 23, 1925-Sept. 29, 2021

Lois Beach Davis passed away Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 29, 2021.

She was born Sept 23, 1925, in Tippecanoe County, to Emerson Asa and Grace (Rice) Beach. She graduated from New Ross High School in 1943 — go Blue Jays!

On Jan. 25, 1946, she married Herschell H. Davis in freezing rain, hail, sleet and snow. They were blessed with Nancy (Donald F. ) Kochert, Janie Cronk and Charles Edward (now deceased). Lois and Herschell loved camping, square dancing, taking their RV to Indy 500 races and participating in Shriner parades.

Lois was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at the local Brian Bowman VFW Post 1431. While her children were growing, Lois sewed clothing, wallpapered and upholstered the home furnishings.

Lois decorated their home with crocheted doilies, cross-stitched wall hangings and blessed her grandchildren with knitted afghans.

She loved to travel and was a true “social butterfly.” Because she loved people, Lois became a nurse’s aide at the old Crawfordsville hospital, worked at Montgomery Wards in the drapery and blinds department, loved working in the kitchen of the Cambridge Inn cafeteria in the old mall, and truly enjoyed the public at Roselyn’s Bakery.  Later in life, Lois was a caregiver for neighbors and friends-all while participating in euchre and bridge card clubs.

Herschell died in 1995 and Lois was the last of her nine brothers and sisters: Donald 1905-1978, Harold 1907-1987, Helen Hudson 1909-2001, Floyd 1912-2000, Mildred Swearingen 1914-2001, Byron 1916-1988, Morris 1920-1994, Paul 1922-2003, Lois 1925-2021 and Stanley 1927-1981.

Surviving are her two daughters; sister-in-law Glena Davis of Oak Hill, Florida; grandchildren, Wendy (John) Jackson, Maureen (Shawn) Brewer, Teresa (Donny) Dowell, Selina Touhey, Kyle (Alexis) Grimes, Jeremy (Traci) Davis and Corey (Michele) Davis; great-grandchildren, Katherine Jackson, Andrew and Lexie Brewer, Marcus and McKayla Dowell, Johnathan Touhey, Mia Grimes, Guenevere (Ben) Groff and Hannah, Joshua and Colton Davis; great-great-grandchildren, Brennen and Persephone; and beloved cousins, nieces, nephews of the extended Beach, Davis, Denham, Hudson, Rice, Ritter and Swearingen families.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Burkhart Funeral Home.  Services will begin at 4 p.m. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Cemetery South.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity or Riley Hospital for Children, 30 S. Meridian St., Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46204-3509.
