Fred McKee

Frederick Norman McKee, 78, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, and formerly Hendersonville, North Carolina, died October 4, 2021. Fred was born November 23, 1942 to Arnold and Mary (Wilkinson) McKee in Brazil, Indiana.

Fred was valedictorian of his high school class in Clay City; earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Rose Polytechnic Institute; and he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, as well as a master’s in business administration, from the University of Michigan.

One of Fred’s early jobs, post-college, was at Texas Instruments, but he spent the bulk of his career working at Ford Motor Company, from which he retired in 1999.

Fred was a loving husband to the late Ruth Ann (Schell) McKee. Surviving family members include: Susan (Tony) Maj, Jennifer McKee (Joe Grekin), and Heather (Steve) Gruenewald. Fred was also grandfather to Mia (Kyle) Valley; Bianca Maj; Sofia Maj; Tony Maj Jr.; Lily Grekin-McKee; Neve Grekin-McKee; and Sabrina Gruenewald. Fred was also great-grandfather to Waylon Valley.

Fred loved his wife, whom he never stopped missing; University of Michigan football and basketball; Mexican food and Texas Roadhouse; old western TV shows; chatting with others; and movies – including ones you might expect (“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “The Great Escape”) alongside those you absolutely would not (“Bridget Jones’ Diary”).

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 9th at 3 PM at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. 8th Street, Clay City, Indiana 47841. Friends and family may visit from 2 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Humane Society.
