George R. Dowell

George “Tinker” Dowell of Linnsburg passed away Friday at Franciscan St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette. He was 61.

Born Oct. 24, 1959, at Crawfordsville, he was the son of George Dowell and Nancy (Payne) Dowell Russell. On July 12, 1990 he married Twila Wright. She survives.

He earned an associate’s degree from Oakland University and was an HVAC technician for MacLellan HVAC and Mechanical. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, kayaking and loved spending time with his grandkids.

Surviving family members include: his wife, Twila Dowell; son Dustin Brock of Crawfordsville; granddaughter they adopted is now a daughter, Josalyn Dowell; grandson Ephraim Brock of Indianapolis; and granddaughter Willow Brock. Also surviving are sisters, Melanie (Jim) Thurston of Crawfordsville, Frances (Tim) Stephens of Michigan; and brothers, Jack Russell of Crawfordsville and Donald Dowell of Oregon.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Calvin Dowell.

Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13 at Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor Vernon Dowell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
