Jonnie Téa Labbe

April 10, 1997-Oct. 9, 2021

Jonnie Téa Labbe, 24, of Crawfordsville was released of her earthly pain and born into Christ on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021 after a courageous 3 1/2 year battle with Lupus.

Jonnie was born April 10, 1997, to April Dawn Labbe (Smith) and Edward (Ted) C. Labbe III, also of Crawfordsville.

She was a strong willed and free-spirited child. With her bright auburn curls and freckled cheeks, she loved to crawl through the grass with her kittens, sneak out on the roof to say hello to the stars and sing to the beat of her own drum. She spent a lot of time in the woods with her dad and took great joy in mushroom hunting, always grinning wide as she returned with the heaviest sack. She and her mother would float together in the pool, finding shapes in the clouds, and shared a deep and spiritual connection that was second to none. She loved and supported her sister, Ella, through thick and thin.

Jonnie was a friend to everyone, from all walks of life. She never hesitated to stand up for herself or others and loved everyone for exactly who they were.  From her North Montgomery High School gang, her Applebee’s work family and everyone she befriended along the way when she followed her heart and journeyed to Burney, California to live out her hippy dreams. A true wildflower at heart, she knew all too well that seeds must go to dark places before they can bloom.

Jonnie was the light that never stops shining and her light cast further than any of us will ever know. She brought the sunshine when there was only darkness and could always find the smallest ray of hope in a seemingly hopeless situation. She doubled downed on this mentality all the way to the very end. Surrounded by her friends and family, and with freshly painted nails, she sailed away to her Heavenly Adventure with a typical Jonnie “BYE.”

Jonnie Téa was preceded in death by her grandma, Sherry Lea Smith, and is survived by her parents, her sister and countless aunts, uncles and cousins. She is also survived by her Nana, Marcia H. Labbe of Crawfordsville. Jonnie’s final wishes are for her ashes to be buried with her “Grampa,” the late Edward C. Labbe II.

Jonnie’s humor, love and loyalty to her peeps will be missed by all.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Ave., Crawfordsville. Friends and family will be received from 11 a.m. until services begin.

“Life has knocked me down a few times, showed me stuff I never wanted to see. I’ve experienced sadness and failures, but one thing is for sure, I get back up. Strong walls shake but never collapse. I’m the girl that makes them wonder how I’m still smiling and standing tall.” — Jonnie Labbe
