Fred R. Brewer

Feb. 13, 1950-Oct. 11, 2021

Fred R. Brewer, 71, of Waveland passed away Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East.

He was born Feb. 13, 1950, at Crawfordsville, as the ninth of 13 children to George Woodson and Ruby Elizabeth (Blackaby) Brewer. He married Jo Ellen Stewart on Feb. 9, 1973. She survives.

Fred graduated from Waveland High School as class Salutatorian in 1968. He went on to join the United States Marine Corps that same year and was stationed in San Diego. Fred was honored to serve as a guard for Air Force 1 for President Nixon, and also was an Airborne radio operator, navigation and load master for a KC-130 Hercules airplane. He was proud to serve his county in the Marines and often liked to quip “If the Army and Navy ever look on Heaven’s scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines.”

Upon returning home Fred’s true passion was farming and he did so in both Parke and Montgomery counties. He loved to travel, especially to Hawaii and to visit family, enjoyed watching westerns, caring for others, his faith and relationship with God. He was a member of Harvest Fellowship Church in Crawfordsville, where he attended with his wife. He loved the quote, “I learned it doesn’t cost you anything to be kind to others,” and always tried to live that out with those he came into contact with. He was a loving husband, father and grandpa and will be dearly missed by many.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jo; three children, Elizabeth Ann Brewer, Amy Katherine (William) McManus and Rachel Leigh Brewer (John Harvey); three grandchildren, Finn Isaac McManus, Reagan Elizabeth Deloney and Egon Charlie Harvey; siblings, Lawrence (Daphne), Maurice (Carolyn), Don, Joyce and Dale; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Ivan, Warren, Chick, Marvin, Kenny, Alma and Jerry.

A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17 at Harvest Fellowship Church, 1618 W. C.R. 500S, Crawfordsville, with Pastors JD Bowman and Glen McFarland officiating. Friends and family are invited for a time of visitation Sunday from 3 p.m. until the time of service at the church. The family would appreciate all in attendance to wear a mask. Machledt & Servies Funeral Home has been entrusted with Fred’s funeral arrangements.

Memorials in Fred’s memory may be made to St. Jude.
