Arthur Willard Culver

Arthur Willard Culver, 88, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away at his home, on October 11, 2021 following a lengthy illness.

Art was born on December 1, 1932, in Kalamazoo, Michigan the son of Arthur E. and Ruby Lee (Simpson) Culver. Art served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict in Company C 826th Tank Battalion where he served as a Tank Gunner. He was honorably discharged in 1955 as a Corporal. As a civilian Art worked as a truck driver for Davis Motor Freight for several years. He also worked as an independent truck driver / owner operator. Art was dedicated to the trucking business and was a powerful advocate for the Independent Trucker Movement.

Art was a member of the Union Christian Church, in Terre Haute. He enjoyed writing poetry, playing cards, and working outside. As a young man he loved riding horses and attending to the family farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Ruby Culver; sisters: Shirley Maywood, Delores Tipton, Mary Rouse, Sharon Craft, and Gladys Gillespie.

Art is survived by his wife Sandy Culver whom he married on January 29, 1999. He also leaves behind 3 sons: David Scott Culver of Texas, Steven Christopher Culver of Michigan, and Michael Alan Culver and wife Rozalina of Dallas, Texas; step-children: Bill Chamberlin and wife Chandi, Cindy Ehrat and husband Michael, Angela Lorton and husband Dennis, Amy Belcher and husband Josh, and Tara MacDonald and husband Greg; grandchildren: Renae, Steven, Kayla, Jesse, Austin, Kelsy, Levi, Jacob, Brady, Jalon, Andrew, Joshua, Nathanael, Rebekah, Ava, and Emma; a brother Wally Culver and wife Sandy; as well as several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Graveside services will be held at Danville National Cemetery on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11:00am Eastern Standard Time. Friends are welcome to join Art’s family at Union Christian Church 5350 E Hulman Dr, Terre Haute, IN 47803 on Monday, October 18, 2021 from 2pm until 3pm. A celebration of life service will begin at 3:00pm.
