Karon was born April 12, 1942, to Lawrence and Katherine (Brooks) Matney, in the home of her maternal grandparents, Omar and Edith (Bates) Brooks in Milroy, Indiana.

Karon graduated from North Vernon High School and attended Ball State University. She was a secretary to a purchasing agent at the State Office Building and a secretary in personnel at Sears.

She was married to the late Philip Apple. They were owners of Apple Agri Sales in Crawfordsville.

Survivors include: her daughter, Lore Apple of Crawfordsville; and two grandchildren, Celia (Geoffrey) Sadjadi and Joel Kauth, both of Indianapolis; brother-in-law H.C. Smith; nieces, Vicky Carr and Cindy Smith; and nephews, Larry (Julie) Smith and Von (Crystal) Smith; nine great nieces and nephews; and two great-great nieces, Addi and Nola.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phil Apple; her parents; grandparents and sister Barbara Smith.

Karon was a member of the First Christian Church and belonged to the Elks, Eagles, American Legion, Psi Otes, a Bridge and Euchre Club. Her hobby was scrapbooking. She spent many hours keeping photo memories for her family. She loved spending time with her family and never missed a play, sports event or any activity of her grandchildren.

She dearly loved her Matney family reunions and cousin reunions with her 24 first cousins. Karon enjoyed making fudge, banana nut bread and vegetable soup for her friends and neighbors. She adored condo living.

Karon has elected to be cremated and will be buried at Simmons Cemetery in Hancock County, Indiana, beside her husband Phil at a later date.

Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to the First Christian Church, 211 S. Walnut, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at the First Christian Church. Masks will be required.
