Frederick ‘Rick’ Yates

Sept. 30, 1946-Oct. 25, 2021

Frederick L. “Rick” Yates of Linden passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. He was 75.

Rick worked at Purdue University before owning his own heating and cooling company that served facilities and residential homes. He was a teacher of his trade and had countless students over the years — many of which kept in contact long after the course had ended.

Rick was happiest when he was helping others. One example of his servant’s heart was his work in the van and helps ministry at his church. His hobbies were woodworking, metal artistry and reading. Most of all, he enjoyed befriending his neighbors and loving his family.

Rick was an Army Ranger and also served in the National Guard. He was a member of White Horse Christian Center in West Lafayette.

He was born Sept. 30, 1946, at Covington, the son of Frederick L. Yates Sr. and Pauline (Hopper) Yates.

Surviving family includes: wife Mary June (Johnson) Yates; two sons, Chad and Jonathan Yates; two daughters, Rachel Johnson-Yates and Stacey Yates; as well as six grandchildren.

Visitation is noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Ave., Crawfordsville. Services will begin at 1 p.m. led by Pastor Jeff Johns. Burial will follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Waveland.
