J.P. Coble

Jon “J.P.” Coble, 85, of Cory, Indiana, passed away at Union Hospital on October 30, 2021 following a brief illness.

He was born on January 6, 1936, in Terre Haute, Indiana the son of Berlin “Mose” and Meryl (Warken) Coble. He married Linda Davis on April 18, 1964.

Jon served his country in the United States Army 3rd Infantry Division in Germany from 1958 to 1964. As a civilian, he worked as a farmer, the Clay County Highway Department and the State Highway Department for several years.

He was a member of the Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church and the American Legion in Clay City.

In his free time, he enjoyed farming, gardening, reading, watching Western’s, and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son Zane Coble.

Survivors include his wife of more than 57 years Linda Coble; a daughter Alethea Coble, sister-in-law Deloris “Dee” Daves and husband Robert “Bob” of Sullivan as well as many extended family members and friends.

Graveside services will be held at Mt. Calvary / VanCleve Cemetery 1575 W. Co. Rd. 200 N. Brazil, Indiana 47834 on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 1:00pm with Pastor Judy Lints officiating. Military honors will be provided by members of the American Legion, VFW, and United States Army.

His family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church c/o Vangie Harrison 3229 N. Co. Rd. 200 W. Brazil, Indiana 47834.
