Betty Jo Stephens

June 9 1937-Oct. 24, 2021

Betty Jo Stephens, 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 24, 2021. 

She was born June 9, 1937, at Lafayette, to Claude and Frona (Baxley) Kerns. She married Keith E. Stephens on Oct. 30, 1955. They were married 66 years. They lived in Crawfordsville and Danville, Indiana, before moving to Wauchula, Florida in 2001. 

Betty graduated from Waynetown High School in 1954. She worked as a fiscal coordinator in the healthcare industry in Indianapolis for a number of years. Just one of Betty’s many talents was cooking. She also loved to do crafts, needle work and was an accomplished artist. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Wauchula.

Surviving, besides her husband, are daughters, Demerius C. Riddle of Wilmington, Ohio and Diatrah C. Stephens of Indianapolis; granddaughter Patricia Piccione of Borger, Texas; grandson Paul Piccione of Idaho; great-grandchildren, Carley and Colton Couch of Borger, Texas; sister-in-law Diane Burget; brothers-in-law Bill Burget and Marion Maxwell; and several wonderful nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Mary Maxwell; and brother Bill Kerns.

Cremation was selected. Betty’s victory party will be held at a later date in Wauchula. A special thank you to the Good Shepherd Hospice of Sebring, Florida, for their compassionate care of Betty and her family.
