Herschel Yater

Herschel Yater of Veedersburg passed away Sunday evening, Nov. 14, 2021, at home.

He was born at Marshall to Bervie and Goldie Larue (Cain) Yater. He was self-employed for many years in construction, worked in several area factories and also had owned Yater Furniture and Yater Auto Parts at one time.

He married Verna M. Herriott on July 31, 1946, and she passed Oct. 23, 2008. He then married Sherry Bailey and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Betty Jean (Yater) Leslie and Janet Pauline (Yater) Ellars and husband Harold; grandchildren, Matt Leslie, Jeremy Yater, Chad Jones, Amanda Jones, Mark Leslie, Angie Greene and Dawn Long; as well as several great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Nancy Yater.

He was preceded in death by son Harold Paul Yater; siblings, Eldon Murrell Yater, Lloyd Francis Yater, Morris Cliston Yater, James Carroll Yater, Mary Alice (Yater) Leaman, Ruth Larue (Yater) Larson, Gerald Paul Yater and Vernon Glenwood Yater; and son-in-law Alvin Kenneth Leslie.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, with visitation two hours prior. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
