Jerry Lee Woodfork

Jerry L. Woodfork, Retired Lt. Colonel, 82 of Harmony, IN, formerly of Coal City, passed away December 5, 2021, at his home with his family by his side. He was born May 30, 1939, in Vincennes, IN. the son of Basil R. Woodfork and Eva Lee Sayre Woodfork. He graduated from Lincoln High School and continued his education next at Vincennes University with an AD in Electrical Engineering. His education would continue throughout his lifetime. He later received a BS Degree from Indiana State University in Science and Math with a teaching certificate. A master’s degree was completed at the University of the Philippines in Political Science while he was serving in the Air Force through the College of Armed Services.
He had a lifetime career in the Air Force working in the Communications as a Commander in Strategic Air Command at Hulman Field. His career in the Air Force took him many places, including the Philippines, Japan, Viet Nam, Norway and throughout the US including Arizona, Mississippi, and Texas.
Mr. Woodfork was a member of the Franklin Heights Christian Church, formerly known as Reel Ave. Christian Church in Vincennes. He had also attended the Cory Community Church of the Nazarene and Berea Christian Church. He enjoyed attending church with his family and being present for all the grandchildren’s church programs.
Jerry was a life member of the Clay City VFW. He and his brothers were Honorary Members of the Cherry River Association serving as Admiral in West Virginia. Saying he was an avid reader does not do him justice. He read library books and was surrounded by books in his home. He also enjoyed travel with his family and time with the grandchildren and children. He loved attending all their school events, graduations, and sporting events. He was a huge fan and so proud of all they accomplished. He was affectionately known as The Rock to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Basil Lynn Woodfork: son in law, Steven Maurer, his granddaughter Courtney Walker Broady, and the mother of his children and lifetime friend, Evelyn Carol Holloway Woodfork.
Survivors include his daughters, Christiane Walker and husband Jesse, Kelly Maurer, Nicole Jeffers and husband Alan all of Brazil, Evalee Hauer and husband Paul of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Kellsy Terrell (A.J.), Griffin Maurer (Rachel), Jordan Maurer (Kylee), Asieavae Jeffers, Avalee Jeffers, Baylee Hauer, Saydee Hauer, Brady Hauer; great-grandchildren, Hayden Broady, Hadley Broady, Ren Terrell, Rhys Terrell, Liev Maurer, Nico Maurer, and Nell Maurer; his twin brother, Larry D. Woodfork of Morgantown, WV; and other extended family.
Services will be held on Saturday at the Cory Church of the Nazarene at 2:00pm. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 11-2. Pastor Pat Shay will officiate. Burial will follow at VanCleve Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force.
