Shirley L. Rinehart

NOVEMBER 26, 1939 – DECEMBER 9, 2021

Heaven just got rowdy. Shirley L. Rinehart left this Earth and all her troubles behind on the morning of Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Harrison’s Crossing Health Campus. Born on November 26, 1939 in Tennessee, Illinois to Elmer and Vera Bice, Shirley set out to live a life of adventure.

After graduating from Colchester High School, Shirley moved to Chicago. She worked for the Chicago Bears, reporting directly to the owner, whom she fondly referred to as Papa Bear. Fate and a mixed up date led her to meet the love of her life, James “Jim” Rinehart. The two married on June 20, 1959.

Shirley and Jim owned Harvest Gold Laundry together. She was a member of American Legion Post 104 Auxiliary and Elks Lodge 86. Anyone who knew Shirley knew that she loved to have a good time. Armed with a quick wit, unmatched sarcasm, and a Bacardi and diet, there was no party that Shirley couldn’t liven up. She knew everyone, and if she didn’t, she was quick to fix that. Shirley had a beautiful voice and was always one of the first ones at the mic on karaoke night. Her radiant smile, amazing sense of humor, and persistent orneriness will be forever missed.

Shirley is survived by her nephews, Jimmy Rinehart and wife Dawn, Mike Rinehart and wife Nancy, and Robert Rinehart and wife Terri; a niece, Ann Young and husband Steven; a cousin, Larry Rings of Colchester, IL; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jim Rinehart.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 13 in Roselawn Memorial Park’s Chapel of Memories where Shirley will be laid to rest with her husband following services. The American Legion Post 104 Ladies Auxiliary will be performing rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society or another animal welfare charity of your choice. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
