Charles Purl

Charles Purl Jr. 90, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Charles was born to the late Charles and Norma (Addington) Purl in Booneville, Indiana.
Charles graduated from Clay City High School in 1948 then attended Indiana State College. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 and served as an Air Traffic Controller at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines from 1954 to 1956.
Mr. Purl started teaching in Brazil High School in 1957 and got his M.A. degree in 1960. He moved to Hollywood, Florida in 1962 where he taught for 30 years. After retiring in 1992, he moved o North Fort Myer, Florida where he spent the winters while spending the summer months at Dietz Recreation Park near Centerpoint, Indiana.
Mr. Purl was a life member of Clay City VFW Post 6606, Brazil American Legion Post #2, Clay City Masonic Lodge, Hollywood Florida Elks Lodge, and was a member of Araba Shrine in Fort Myers.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, nephew, Mike Swalley, and niece Ann Ritorto.
Charles is survived by his sister, Bonnie Swalley (Ben) of Brownsburg, niece and nephew, Benita Turner (Rick), and Jack Swalley (Robin) both of Brownsburg, as well as several extended family members.
Cremation will take place.
Burial of cremated remains will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery with military honors at a later date.
