Jane Estal Bowles

Jane Estal Bowles of rural Veedersburg died Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, at her home.

She was born Aug. 5, 1942, east of Cates, the daughter of Leroy Snoddy and Anna (Crowder) Merryman.

Jane married William Robert Bowles on March 26, 1975, at Oakwood, Illinois. Robert died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2021. 

Surviving are two daughters, Carol (Arthur) Sellers of Covington and Anna M. Ward of Wheatland, California; step-daughter Shawn Zilinski of Florida; two grandchildren, Andrew T. Howard and Valerie A. Deaton; two step-grandsons, Jeffrey Zilinski and Anthony Sellers; six great-grandchildren, Andrew Jr., Hannah Grace, Jadon Howard and Wyatt, Bryce, Sky Lynn Deaton. Also surviving is brother Samuel (Vivian) Merryman of Crawfordsville; sister-in-law Mary Ann Merryman of Perrysville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Shannon Young; and brother Roy Lee Merryman.

Jane graduated from Kingman High School in 1960. She was employed at Devro Tee Pak for 26 years, retiring in 1996 due to ill health. She was a member of Scotts Prairie Church and Modern Woodmen of America. She enjoyed her great-grandchildren, mushroom hunting, gardening, crafts, cooking and late summer trips to the Smokey Mountains. 

Funeral services for Jane and her husband Bob will be at 2 p.m. EST Thursday, Dec. 30 at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with the Rev. Gerald Holdman officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Visitation will be from noon until time of services at 2 p.m.  Online condolences to the family may be made at www.shelbyfuneralhome.com.
