Richard P. ‘Red’ Smith

Richard P. “Red” Smith of Crawfordsville passed away Tuesday night at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. He was 86.
Red graduated from Waveland High School. He served eight years in the Army Reserve and he worked for 46 1/2 years at RR Donnelley. Red was a member of the Moose and Eagles. He liked to hunt birds and play golf.
Born Sept. 9, 1935, at Waveland, he was the son of Hubert Clyde Smith and Margaret Jeanette McIntyre Smith Hays. He married Nancy Carolyn Fink on Oct. 9, 1955, at Crawfordsville. She passed away June 20, 2019. He married Carolyne Fischer Smith on Nov. 16, 2019. She survives.
Surviving family includes: wife Carolyne Smith; four children, Donald G. Smith (Mary), Dianna L. Billingsley (Donnie), David W. Smith (Lee Ann) and Dawn M. McDaniel (Lance); 11 grandchildren, Jason, Kylene, Kyle, Jared, Tel, Madison, Erica, Brooke, Kaleb, Konnor and Angelia; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held Saturday, Jan. 8 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Ave., Crawfordsville. Burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery, north of Waveland.
