Douglas Conley Chitwood

Dec. 11, 1971-Jan. 6, 2022

Douglas Conley Chitwood, 50, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at Witham Hospital, at Lebanon.

He was born Dec. 11, 1971, at Lebanon, as the son of Fred and Denise Chitwood. Doug graduated from Lebanon High School in 1990. In 1994, he married Julie Sutton and later divorced. Doug and Julie lived in Montgomery County, raising and caring for their children, Laken and Brandon.

During his time at LHS, Doug was a star tennis player, carrying his team to countless victories and setting a record that still stands today. While Doug had a variety of passions throughout his life, he was most known for enjoying Marvel, Star Wars, Disney and Hammer horror films amongst others. He also collected movies and occasionally donated videos to the public library after watching them. Although humble, Doug had a beautiful voice and won many karaoke competitions in his life. Most notably, he loved to make people laugh with his various voice impressions.

In recent years, Doug adopted his cat Buffy, naming her after his favorite television show character. Buffy was the light of his world and his companion through rough times. He spent his days playing with Buffy, and nights playing video games with his children and their spouses. Doug also enjoyed board games, going to the movies, and dining with his family.

Above all, he was a proud father who loved his children and their spouses, a caring son, a thoughtful sibling and a friend to everyone he knew. He brightened the days of those he met with his generous and humorous nature.

Doug is survived by his parents, Fred and Denise Chitwood; son Brandon (Kristen) Chitwood; daughter Laken (Marston) Miller; sister Heather (Matt) Burress; brother Trent (Ben Carlisle) Chitwood; and his nephews, Kevin and Kaden Burress.

Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Martha Chitwood, and Dorman (Bill) and Joann Gates.

The family will welcome friends 3-5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14 at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. No services are planned. Boone County Crematory has been entrusted with his cremation.

Memorials in Doug’s memory may be directed to Humane Society for Boone County or the Shalom House in Lebanon.
