Carla Jean Greavu, formerly of Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully on Jan. 5, 2022, at Somerby Senior Living (memory care) in Charleston, South Carolina, with her husband by her side. She was 88.

Known by her friends and family as Jean or Jeannie, she was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Burlington, Iowa, to Mildred and Leo Goss. She graduated from Omaha Technical High School in 1951 where she became proficient in shorthand dictation which led to her becoming a column editor on the newspaper staff. She met her husband Wesley J. Greavu who was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, and they later traveled to Minnesota to marry in a double wedding ceremony with their two best friends on Sept. 4, 1953. This past September marked their 68th wedding anniversary.

After leaving Minnesota for Indiana in 1967, Jean became an active member of Christ Lutheran Church where she served in many capacities over the years. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, volunteered much of her time to Meals on Wheels and Muffy, and worked at the Montgomery County Treasurer’s Office while raising her five kids.

She enjoyed entertaining her grandkids, playing cards, attending Crawfordsville High School sporting events, going to the movies, bowling, decorating for the holidays and traveling extensively with her husband and family. Jean had a quick wit, admirable vocabulary and was a wizard at solving word jumbles and crossword puzzles in newspapers.

In recent years, Jean and Wes moved to Charleston, SC to be nearer their immediate family. Jean will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother, and for her deep faith, commitment to her family, and for her unwavering desire to help others.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Wes Greavu; daughter Wendi (Terry) Dickerson; sons, Wesley C. Greavu, John (Lori) Greavu and Joel (Bobbie) Greavu; grandchildren, Shelly (Alex) Lamarre, Emma (Josh) Behman, Evan, Ethan, Mackenzi, Chandler, Christian, Shane, Kista, Kennedi and Jolie; and 13 great-grandchildren.
