Martha Jane Hasler

Martha Jane Hasler, 75, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away at home, on January 28, 2022, following a short illness.

Martha was born on September 10, 1946, in Commerce, Georgia, the daughter of Aubrey Rodgers Hardman and Shirley (Duzan) Hardman. Her family moved to Clay City when she was 5 years old. Following her father’s passing, Shirley married Eddy Harrison, who raised her children as his own. Martha graduated from Clay City High School with the class of 1964. She attended nursing school at IVY Tech and worked as an EMT for Athens Ambulance for 14 ½ years. She earned the “Stork Award” four times and was also awarded the Outstanding EMT of Indiana by the American Legion in 1994. Marti worked as an EMT at the PanAm Games in 1987. After working for Athens, she worked at Clay County Hospital as a Med Tech until retiring.

When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed spending time with family and playing cards. Most of all, her heart was most full when caring for others.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Clay City VFW, and the Clay City First United Methodist Church.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents: Aubrey Hardman and Shirley Hardman Harrison and Eddy Harrison and a brother James “Jimmy” Harrison.

She leaves behind her daughter Shelly Johnson and husband Bill of Brazil; son Joseph Hasler and wife Sarah of Farmersburg; grandchildren: Ethan Deal (Anna), Kimber Manuel (Dustin), Aubrey Day (Brady), Hayden Deal, Gavin Johnson (Kayla), Jacob Trent Johnson (Drue), Brandy Harrington, Joni McClelland, Kieran Hasler, Ivy Hasler, Coralee Hasler, and Felicity Hasler; great-grandchildren: Carson Deal, Gracelyn Deal, Cooper Deal, Maverick Deal, Sawyer Day, Emmett Day, Peyton Stantz, and Sebastian Manuel; siblings: Stella Schlegel (Larry) and Gene Hardman (Jan); as well as many extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Services will follow at the funeral home with Eastern Star services beginning at 7:00 PM. Visit www.frenchfuneralhome.com to light a candle in her memory.
