Shirley Strean

Jan. 9, 1936-Jan. 28, 2022

Shirley Strean of Veedersburg passed away Jan. 28, 2022, at her home, with her family at her side.

Shirley was born Jan. 9, 1936, in rural Veedersburg, the daughter of the late Clifford and Margaret Jenks. In September of 1959, she married Larry Strean. He preceded her in death.

She is also preceded in death by son Michael Hay; sister Jacqueline Jenks; and many other family and friends.

She is survived by daughter Denise (Jeff) Duncan, Veedersburg; two granddaughters, Courtney Rogers and Jessica (Brad) Keller; step-granddaughter Amber (Michael) Pickett, all of Veedersburg. She has eight beautiful great-grandchildren, Austin, Ethan, Ashley, Hayden, Colin, Noah, Lucas and Thomas, all of which she loved dearly. She is also survived by brother Duane “Bud” (Marlene) Jenks of Veedersburg.

As a family we would like to send a big thank you to her caregivers for taking such great care of her; Rebecca Wilson, Jackie Waddell, Kim Baker and Natalie Carnahan. Thank you all for taking such good care of mom. And to Guardian Angel Hospice, you were all awesome.

Also a big thank you to Jimmy Coulter, you have been in our lives since 2001, I know my mom and dad thought of you as one of their own. Thank you for everything you have done for them.

Shirley was known for making the best mush, stewed apples, bread pudding and cabbage soup. But most of all she lived for the flea markets and rummage sales. She was a wonderful Avon Lady in her earlier years, and believe me it’s still in her house. She will definitely be missed by all that loved her.

Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with Pastor Dave Sims officiating. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday and continue until the time of service. Burial will be at Rockfield Cemetery near Veedersburg.

In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorial contributions be given to CFL Animal Rescue.
