Harry Cooksey

April 1, 1928 - January 30, 2022

 

Harry Cooksey, 93 of Brazil, passed away January 30, 2022, at 10:38pm at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born April 1, 1928, in Brazil, IN. the son of Roy Cooksey and Anna Parksey Cooksey.

As a young man, Harry worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He worked repairing tracks and was skilled in working heavy equipment. He later worked at the Logan Clay Plant, and then worked at Great Dane when they came to Clay County.

He has been a member of the Brazil Moose Lodge and the Eagles. Harry always put out a garden, kept his yard mowed and cared for all the dogs that people left near his house. He had a soft spot in his heart for dogs.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry, and Toni Cooksey of Reelsville; grandchildren, Tammy Rollings (Brent), Christy Mayfield (Chris), Jana Yeley (Eric), Brian Lawson, Michelle Lawson-Wade, Nathan Atkinson (Charrisse), Matthew Atkinson (Jen), Joseph Atkinson (Cairin), Sarah Lawrence (George); 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Sherry Lynn Cooksey Lawson; his first wife June Cooksey; his last wife, Loretta Cooksey; one brother George Cooksey and one sister Betty Hargis.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 1:00pm at French Funeral Home with grandson, Matthew Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow at Croy’s Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11-1. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Clay County Human Society, 8280 N Co RD 125 W, Brazil, IN. 47834.
