Joseph Earl ‘Junior’ Plunkett

Joseph Earl “Junior” Plunkett, 91, of Kingman passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, at Regional Hospital, Terre Haute.

He was born Nov. 3, 1930, in Montgomery County, to the late Joseph Earl Sr. and Mary Margaret (Byler) Plunkett.

 

Junior attended Rabb School and proudly served his country in the United States Army in the 78th infantry during the Korean War. On March 7, 1961, he married the love of his life, Emma Lou Sanders, who survives. Throughout the years he worked at the Wallace Lime Pit, General Motors, the Brick Yard in Crawfordsville, was a millwright at the Local 1003-1076 in Indianapolis for over 50 years and owned and operated Plunkett Salvage and Towing in Kingman for over 60 years.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge # 314, a Shiner and 33rd degree Mason; a member of the Kingman American Legion for 60 years, Eastern Star, Civil Defense, Covington VFW lifetime member, and Fountain/Parke County Low12 Club.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Emma; three children, Mike (Gail Langford) Plunkett, Debbie (Glen) Paxton and Kevin (Val) Plunkett; 11 grandchildren, Mikey, Dustin, Jason, Jenny, Jennifer, Natalie, Jacob, Josh, Justin, Kristin and Ryan; 19 great-grandchildren; sister Elsie McClure; brother George (Helen) Plunkett; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Terry Plunkett; grandson Kyle Plunkett; granddaughter Alisha Huffman; brother Everett Plunkett; and sister Kay Schmidt.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S. First St., Kingman, with Masonic Rites at 6:45 p.m. The service will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, with Rodney Coffman officiating and military honors by Legion Post 72 Honor Guard and the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Fountain County Sheriff K-9 Fund, 439 E. C.R. 50S, Veedersburg, IN 47987 or Kingman Fire Department, P.O. Box 91, Kingman, IN 47952. Burial will follow at Centennial Cemetery.
