Phyllis J. West

October 22, 1933 - February 1, 2022

Phyllis J. West, 88 of Brazil, passed away February 1, 2022, at 10:43pm at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility, with her family by her side. She was born October 22, 1933, in Parke, County, the daughter of Fred Arthur Jackman and Gladys White Jackman. She graduated from Bridgeton High School, Class of 1951.

On July 5, 1952, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Wayne West, he survives. This summer they would have celebrated 70 years together. They have been member of the Community Missionary Church for many years.

Phyllis worked as a teaching assistant at Forest Park School, retiring in 1992. In years past, Phyllis and Wayne enjoyed camping and traveling in the United States. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, and working in the yard of their home. Her most precious time was spent with family and being a grandma.

Survivors include her children, Alan West and wife Penny, and Karen Cooper and husband Jeff all of Brazil; grandchildren, Hannah Mesaeh (Bill), Jessie Riddell (George), Shane Cooper (Heather), and Kayla Dials (Steve); great-grandchildren, William, Elijah, Luke, Abner, Emma, Micah, Gwyneth, Eleanor, Amelia, Maddox, Piper and Bennett; one sister Alice Waldridge; one brother, Larry Jackman (Susan); sister- in- law, Bonnie West; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Odetta Witty, Ruth Anne Pyle, Mary Chaney, Fred Jackman, Jr, and Joan Thompson.

Services will be held Monday at 1:00pm at the Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave, Brazil, IN, with Pastor Kenny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30-1 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Gideon Bibles.
