Delores “Dodie” Irene Childress, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 19, 1936, in Terre Haute, to Cornie and Hazel (Haynes) Banta. She married Roy Gene Childress on August 28, 1954.

Dodie is survived by her children: Becky Hennecke (Ralph) of Shelburn, Cindy Weir (Rob) of Lewis, Pamela Trench of Hymera, and Kenneth Childress (Deborah Wilson) of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Jeremy Hennecke (Bobbi), Travis Hennecke (Kristy), Shawn Hennecke (Kacy), Heather Thacker (Jared), Robyn Gilbert (Ian), Derek Weir (Jamie), Mark Trench Jr. (Ashley), Tabitha Brinegar (Kyle), Patricia Lynn Childress, Joshua Childress (Amelia), Abigail Gonzalez (Jesus), and Jason Weir; thirty-three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Gene Childress; grandchildren, Tracy Trench and Justin Roy Childress; brother, Kenneth Banta; sister, Shirley Lyday; and son-in-law, Mark Trench . Dodie worked for Chesty Foods for several years. She retired from the Quality Control Department at CBS. She then worked as a housekeeper for many years. A passion for helping others, Dodie also worked for the Lighthouse Mission where she enjoyed providing comfort and outreach to a community in need. She was a member of Oak Hill Community Church.

Dodie loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to the many trips and ballgames that they shared as a family. Hosting her family during Christmas was one of her favorite things to do. She played Bingo and was a regular at her Bunko group. Forever spunky, Dodie loved to dance. She never met a stranger and always showed people kindness and compassion, no matter who they were. A loving mother, doting grandmother and great-grandmother, Dodie will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, February 11 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, at the funeral home with Rev.
