Mary M. Finch

Mary M. Finch, 99, of Avon, previously of Terre Haute, passed away on February 12, 2022.

Mary was born to the late Ross and Pearl Martha Johnson Ricker on January 1, 1923, on the family farm in Frankfort, Indiana.

After graduating from high school in 1940, she worked at Purdue University for the Physics Department as the secretary to the Department Head. The Department was working on the “Manhattan Project” at the time of her employment. She later worked for the Canteen Corporation in Terre Haute.

She was involved in many organizations throughout her life that included:

* Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts (Terre Haute) * Head Start (Terre Haute) * Meals on Wheels (Terre Haute) * Volunteer at St. Anthony’s Hospital; later Regional Hospital (Terre Haute) * Volunteer at Hendricks Regional Hospital (Danville, Indiana)

Mary enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, traveling, and collecting antique wall pockets. She attended the Washington Avenue Presbyterian Church for many years and was involved to several activities at the church.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Robert (Bob) Finch in 1993; brother, Don Ricker in 2012; and sister, Virginia Rushing in 2020.

Mary is survived by three children, Judi (Jim) Franks of Indianapolis, David (Alice) Finch of rural Montezuma, Becky (Mike) Maher of Avon; four grandchildren, Jeff (Kim) Franks of Indianapolis, Jessica (Sean) Kammerling of Indianapolis, Sean (Tabatha) Maher of Evansville, Cara Maher (finance - Alan Gurevich) of Avon; four great-grandchildren, Ali Franks, Evan Franks, Alexis Kammerling, Lucas Maher. She is also survived by sister, Julia Newhouse of Frankfort, brother-in-law, Charles Finch of Evansville, and several nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at Roselawn Chapel of Memories.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, starting at 11:30 a.m. (Eastern Time) at the Hendricks County Senior Services Center, 1201 Sycamore Lane, Danville, Indiana. All friends and family are welcome to attend. A catered lunch will be available after the Celebration.

The family would like to extend thanks to Life’s Journey Hospice House in Avon for the care and support they provided.
