Jeffrey L. "Jeff" Stewart

March 29, 1958 - February 18, 2022

Jeffrey Lynn Stewart, 63, longtime resident of North Salem, Indiana, passed on Friday, February 18, 2022 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born March 29, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana, son of the late Benjamin Cleo and Catherine Marie (Finchum) Stewart.

He was a 1976 graduate of Tri-West High School after attending North Salem High School. On October 25, 1980, he married the love of his life, Penny Lynn (Riddell) Stewart, at Rochdale Baptist Church.

Jeff worked at Fleetwood Travel Trailers for over a decade. He then worked for Nucor Steel as a skilled millwright. After Nucor, he worked for Steel Dynamics in Terre Haute, Indiana, formerly known as Heartland Steel and later CSN, LLC. He was the hardest worker both at home and at work, and always joked that he needed to go back to work to take a break from his days off.

He was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Brazil.  Jeff was a devoted husband, father, grandfather/dadapaw, great grandfather, and brother who loved his family more than anything. In addition to his family, Jeff enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, trucks and muscle cars (especially anything Chevrolet), and animals, horses being his favorite. He never met a stranger and could carry on an hours-long conversation with anyone about anything. He was a comedian, but most of his jokes can’t be repeated. He taught his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids everything they know, from how to ride a bike to how to drive, how to hunt, how to fish, how to work, and how to be a good person. He was willing to do anything for anyone at any time. He loved supporting his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids in all that they did and tried his best to never miss a thing.

He is survived by his wife, Penny Stewart, his daughter, Amanda (Joel Brooks) Stewart, his son and daughter-in-law, Ethan and Clarissa Stewart, his granddaughter, MaKenzie Stewart, his grandsons, Logan and Landin Moore, his great-grandsons, River Stewart and Ryder Stewart-Barret, his sister, Kay Witt, his mother-in-law, Betty Riddell, and many brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved with his whole heart.

In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his older brother, Douglas C. Stewart, father-in-law, Darrell “Bossy” Riddell, and brothers-in-law, Steve Witt and Warren Riddell.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds on March 6, 2022 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Come and go as you please, tell stories, jokes or dirty limericks, and honor the life of this amazing man who will be greatly missed.

Memorials may be directed in his memory to the American Breast Cancer Foundation
