Katherine McCleary

SEPTEMBER 16, 1921 – FEBRUARY 21, 2022

Katherine H. McCleary, age 100, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022.

She was born September 16, 1921, in Edgar County, Illinois to Sylvester and Maude Hoult and graduated from Chrisman High School. Katherine married Paul O. McCleary on May 15, 1942 and they celebrated 72 years of life together.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul; her parents; her siblings Roger Hoult, Leonard Hoult, and Mary Margaret (Peggy) Kraemer.

Katherine is survived by her sons, David McCleary (Diana) of Farmersburg and Daryl McCleary (Jean) of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Rachel Kiefer (Steffyn) of Staunton and Paul McCleary (Kaysie) of Terre Haute; great-grandchildren: Reece, Dylann, and Clemsyn McCleary of Terre Haute, Kennedy and Kendall Keifer of Staunton; along with her special nieces, Linda Patton of Vincennes and Marcia Kirk of Terre Haute.

Katherine worked for the Vigo County School Corporation as a custodian at both Meadows and Davis Park Elementary schools. She retired from K-Mart Corporation working in the Boys and Men's clothing department. Katherine attended Eighth Avenue Baptist Church for many years and later became a member of the First Baptist Church in Clinton. She always enjoyed going to church and reading her bible. She was an avid baseball fan of the Chicago Cubs and also enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 11-1pm at Roselawn Funeral Home. Service will begin at 1pm with Chaplin Colleen Montgomery officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Katherine's name to VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley.
