Muriel LaVanne

Muriel L. LaVanne, 95, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Westminster Village. She was born on April 26, 1926, in Joliet, Illinois to Paul and Rosa (Schweser) Mapes. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William C. Kilgore in 1950 and William P. LaVanne in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Pauline Drew; and daughter-in-law, Linda LaVanne.

Muriel is survived by two sons, Thomas LaVanne of Westlake Village, California, and William LaVanne and wife Laura of Lake Zurich, Illinois; a daughter, Nancy Deckard of Plainfield; a brother-in-law, Wesley Drew of Springfield, Illinois; grandchildren, Christine (Zach) Bradley, Paul LaVanne, Scotty (Claire) LaVanne, John (Mary) LaVanne, David LaVanne, Alex (Anna) Deckard, Amanda (Nathan) Lyons; great-grandchildren, Agnes and Abram Deckard, Henry and Eleanor LaVanne, and more great-grandchildren on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

Muriel was a graduate of Northern Illinois State Teachers' College and taught in the public schools of West Lafayette; and Findlay and Newark, Ohio. She was also a caseworker for the Vigo County Department of Public Welfare. She considered her true career, however, to be that of homemaker and mother. Muriel was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church and the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the funeral home. Muriel will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Unity Presbyterian Church or VNA/Hospice of the Wabash Valley.
