John Richard Payne Sr.

John Richard Payne Sr., 70, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at OSF hospital in Danville, Illinois.

He was the husband of Martha Payne. They shared 12 years of marriage together.

Born in Crawfordsville on March 31, 1952, he was the son of George Reuben and Nina Hollis Young Payne. He had attended Fountain Central. After being disabled, he enjoyed scrapping for many years, as he was known as the “Junk Man.” He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and any other activity that would keep him outdoors. He especially enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren.

He is survived by wife Martha; sons, Rick and Kevin (Jessica) Payne; grandchildren, Jaylin, Autumn, Madison and Elijah Payne; sister Kathy (Tom) Sanders; brothers, Benny (Jackie) and Eric (Lib) Payne; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Thelma.

A direct cremation is being performed by Maus Funeral Home, Attica. There will be no visitation or service. There will be a celebration of life held at 5 p.m. Friday at Sterling Christian Church, Veedersburg.
