Harold Edward Redlin January 31,1943 - April 4, 2022

Harold Redlin fulfilled 79 years on earth, a life of strength, determination, hard work, to join Penny, the love of his life, for eternity. Harold, with younger siblings Larry, Denny and Marlene, grew up and worked on the Winamac IN family farm of Harold and Verniece Redlin.

Harold's life took on new dimensions and directions at Purdue University after North Judson HS graduation. He earned an engineering degree and participated in soccer and several campus activities.

Most important, he met Penny Ahrens. In 1966, Harold and Penny graduated, married and solidified a partnership of love, commitment, happiness, and hard work that lasted until Penny's death in 2012.

Harold served his country in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant for Fort Belvoir VA and just days after Penny gave birth to beautiful Holly Marie, he reported for dangerous and challenging active duty in Vietnam. With God's blessings, Harold came home to Penny and quickly became "Daddy Hero" to toddler Holly. He earned the Bronze Star and other military honors/awards and he served in the US Army Reserves. Harold began his long career with Pillsbury in 1970, holding various positions in New Albany, IN, Allentown, PA, Minneapolis, MN and finally back to Penny's hometown Terre Haute, IN.

All who knew and loved him recognized this as a "so Harold" quote: "Better to take a book and not have time to read, than to have time to read and have no book." Harold was never without a book, even when methodically allotting time and energy to tackle tasks and project skill, pride and efficiency or when playing and watching sports or when hiking and sledding near his home. Harold's zest for reading and learning enabled him to advance in his career by earning post-graduate degrees from IUPUI. After retirement, Harold applied his talents and knowledge as a small business consultant.

The greatest "goal" of Harold's life was to be Penny's perfect, supportive husband, Holly's guiding, caring father, and a leader/giver in his community. In later years, Harold and Penny energetically and enthusiastically became Pop Pop and Gam Gam to precious granddaughter Maeve Elizabeth and her pals. Harold must hold a record for attending sports events at St. Joan of Arc and Bishop Chatard in Indy. He was Maeve's proudest fan, supporter and protector. He was a good man who really made a difference by touching the lives of so many and and spreading his sharp, "to the point" wisdom and humor.

Harold was preceded in death by Penny, the women who gave his life meaning, his parents Harold and Verniece Redlin, and Penny's parents Bob and Jewel Ahrens.

Harold is survived by many special people who loved him, were loved by him, shared life's experiences with him, and will miss him so very much: Harold's two most beloved girls Holly Flynn and Maeve Flynn; best friend and brother Larry and Debbie Redlin; Heather Redlin and family; Jason Redlin and family; Robin and Gordon Bennett and family; Brian Flynn; numerous other family members and dear friends.

A strong, caring man has entered Heaven. Harold's earthly mission is finished; his dream of being with Penny for eternity has come true. Vaya con Dios, our dear Harold.
