Shirley Mae Swim, 84, of Brazil, passed away on April 11, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Shirley was born in Greencastle on November 29, 1937, the daughter of Eli Brattain, and Malinda Maurine (Elder) Aker, and was a graduate of Greencastle High School.

Mrs. Swim was a member of Parke County Quilters, was a Master Gardner, and was in multiple Extension Homemaker Clubs. She was a former member of Lena United Methodist Church. Shirley enjoyed quilting, gardening, and cooking, but above all she loved taking care of her family.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Jim Swim; five children, Debbie Stone, Rosedale, Donna Moats, (Kevin), Terre Haute, Danny Swim, (Terri), Spencerville, Darlene Derifield, (Wally), Plymouth, and Denise Mills (Ryan), Fayetteville, Arkansas; a brother John E. Aker, Owensboro, Kentucky; a sister, Barbara Aker, Greencastle; 17 grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, Taylor, Kayla, Savannah, Mackenzie, Randy, Jacob, Justin, Tyler, Nathaniel, Burke, Elizabeth, Grace, Luke, Olivia and Jozie; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Blaydes officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022 and one hour prior to time of service on Saturday.
