William G. ‘Pop’ Butcher

William G. “Pop” Butcher, 93, of Russellville passed away April 15, 2022.

Pop was born Jan. 14, 1929, in a farmhouse, near Augusta, Indiana. He went to Winslow High School and Indiana Central College (now Indianapolis University.)

He retired from Chrysler Corp. in 1984 after 32 years of service. He worked as the bar manager at All Star Bowl for approximately 15 years after that. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #300 in Waveland, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine Temple and Sahara Grotto. He also belonged to the American Legion, Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge of Crawfordsville.

Pop enjoyed camping and fishing at his place at Sugar Mill Lake and spending time with his family. He had a quick wit and kept the nurses smiling until the end.

Pop is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Carla R. (Harper) Butcher, and daughter S. LeAnn Beller.

He is survived by daughters, Terri Kennedy and Kristi Hromek (Justin); grandchildren, Jennifer McGaughey (Cary), Nik Beller, Grant Beller, Jerod Hromek and Matt Hromek; and four great grandchildren.

We would like to thank the Russellville community and the McGaughey family for adopting Pop and treating him like a member of the family.

A celebration of life for Pop will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 22 at Russellville Community Church, 103 Third St., Russellville, with Pastor Keith Strain officiating. Friends are invited for a time of visitation from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church. Machledt & Servies Funeral Home has been entrusted with Pop’s funeral arrangements.
