Melburn H. Sorensen

Rev. Melburn “Mel” H. Sorensen, 83, of Clay City, Indiana, passed away at home on May 30, 2022 following an extended illness.

Mel was born on June 12, 1938, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Henry and Leona (Rasmussen) Sorensen. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Mel graduated from Olivet Nazarene College and then from Nazarene Theological Seminary. He served churches in Esterville, Council Bluffs, Fairfield, Davenport, Brazil, Cincinnati, Mitchell, Granite City and most recently Clay City.

When he wasn’t working he enjoyed working in the yard, working puzzles, and spending time with family.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Leona Sorensen and a son David Sorensen.

Survivors include his wife Dixie (Barnett) Sorensen whom he married on August 5, 1960; children: Kathy Brown and husband Scott of Clay City, Brian Sorensen and wife Kati of Evansville, and Jennifer Cooper and husband Steve of Clay City; daughter-in-law Lisa Sorensen of Mattoon, Illinois; grandchildren: Tim Sorensen, Chris Sorensen (Nicole Zizic), Mindy Sorensen, Jessica Kimmel, Erica Stark (Landon), Matthew Kimmel, Daniel Sorensen (Hali), Zack Sorensen (Renee’), Emilee Sorensen, Raelynn Cooper, and Caden Cooper; great-grandchildren: Lucas Sorensen, Bridget Sorensen, Cooper Manker, Maverick Sorensen, and Emerson Sorensen; sisters Jackie Schmidt and Sheryl Juhl; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, parishioners, and friends.

No formal services have been scheduled, however, an "Open House" will be held June 12, 2022 at Cory Community Church of the Nazarene 245 S County Rd 500 W, Cory, IN 47846 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
