Barbara Ann (Newport) Thomas

Barbara Ann Newport Thomas, 88, of Brazil, Indiana, went to her Heavenly home, on Friday, June 10, 2022.

Barbara was the daughter of Tom and Bertha (Berry) Newport. She was born on January 2, 1934. On September 25, 1956, she married the love of her life, Virgil “Red” Thomas. Together they had 4 daughters: Peg, Ronda, Pam, and Penny.

Barbara worked at Adamson’s Laundry Mat (East End), for 35 years.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Bertha Newport, her husband Virgil Thomas, son-in-law Tony Modesitt and several siblings.

She is survived by her 4 daughters: Peg Irwin (Johnny), Ronda Modesitt, Pam Holifield (Jimmy), and Penny Keller (Steve); grandchildren: PJ (Lindsey) Irwin, Derick Modesitt (Chrissy), Jessica Lundy (Jeremiah Allen), Barbie Tarr (Eddie), Lacy Irwin (Jordan Fields), Dani Miller (Tony), Kameko Bennett (Rusty), and Coda Young (Corey); 19 great-grandchildren: Arlie Irwin, Grady Irwin, Mia Modesitt, Jax Modesitt, Brianna Lundy, Peyton Lundy, Marlii Allen, Lilly Allen, Gracie Tarr, Haven Tarr, Exzandr Tarr, Chloe Irwin, Addie Harrington, Ava Miller, Owen Miller, Cameron Bennett, Brookelyn Bennett, Luke Bennett, and Nash Young; sisters: Carolyn Cain, Pat Campbell (Dwayne), and Janet Stearley. Barbara is also survived by special family friends Debbie Vermillion and Wayne Knox.

Barbara was the pillar of strength in our family. She loved fiercely and always said what she thought. Barbara was an amazing noodle maker, loved having her family together, and loved visiting Tennessee. She also enjoyed watching the Halmark Channel, Cowboy Shows, and Cooking Shows. Her favorite was Pioneer Women, and Diners, Dives, and Drive-in’s….. and pretty much anything that Guy Fieri has on TV.

Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834 on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Services will be at the funeral home, on Wednesday, at 12:00 PM with Pastor Seth Amos officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
