Larry Gene Bennett, 79, of Romney passed away at 9:23 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2022, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

Larry was born March 18, 1943, at Lafayette, the son of the late Charles Bennett Jr. and Frances Lucille Linder Bennett. He was a 1961 graduate of Linden High School and received his degree in agriculture from Purdue University.

Larry married Glenda K. French on June 30, 2001, at Rossville. She survives.

He resided all of his life in the Linden area, and farmed in the Montgomery and Tippecanoe County area from 1965 until 2001. He later was employed by Utterback Marketing dealing in grain commodities and in 2005 opened RC Hobbies Plus in Lafayette.

Larry was a member of the Linden United Methodist Church; Lafayette Cloud Jockeys; served as superintendent of the 4-H Llama Club; and a member of the National Micro Mini Tractor Pull Association, where he was the first inductee into their Hall of Fame. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1965 until 1969 and in 1974, he was awarded the National Young Farmer of the Year Award during the President Gerald Ford administration.

Surviving, with his wife Glenda, are daughters, Gena Brown (Kerry) of Lafayette, Stacey Shirar (Darrell) of Lafayette and Andrea Harpenau of Niles, Michigan; son Wade Bennett (Mindy) of Linden; and sister Diana Meier (Ron) of Huntington; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-son.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
