Shelly A. Aker

April 22, 1958 - June 25, 2022

Shelly A. Aker, 64, of Carbon, Indiana, passed away on June 25, 2022 following a four year battle with cancer.

Shelly was born in Brazil, Indiana, on April 22, 1958, the daughter of Thomas R. and Betty (Conway) Gardner. She graduated from Staunton High School with the class of 1976. Shelly worked at Technotrim, in Greencastle, Indiana for a short time. Shelly worked for Barb Nolte Upholstery, in Brazil, before beginning work at Shorter Upholstery, in Terre Haute, where she worked for several years before buying the company. She and her husband Bill owned and operated the business, now called Aker Upholstery, from 2006 until 2019.

When she wasn’t working, Shelly enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, having family gatherings, and collecting Christmas Villages.

Shelly was preceded in death by her parents Thomas R. and Betty Gardner

She is survived by her husband Bill Aker; children: Jessica Kipp (Jeff Soots), Carl Aker (Jennifer), Jeffery Aker (Rebecca McCollum), Sheena Stout (Bryan Dillingham); grandchildren: Ethan, Shaylee, Adrien, Kylie, Liam, Christian, Jon, Cadence, and Rylee; a sister Connie Whitmarsh and husband Tom as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

At Shelly’s request no services have been planned. Cremation has been entrusted to French Funeral Home.
