Paunda L. White, 83 of Clay City, passed away peacefully at her home on June 29, 2022, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born September 11, 1938, the daughter of Paul and Edith (Miller) Riggs in the community known as Middlebury.
Paunda attended Clay City High School then married the love of her life Jim White, on June 3, 1955. She and Jim were married for 64 years before his passing in 2019. Together they raised three children while farming and raising livestock. Paunda worked at Roots Department store for a short time in the 70’s before taking a position as a teaching assistant with Clay Community Schools in Clay City. She worked there for about 25 years before retiring in 2001. She loved working with children and had many fond memories she would talk about over the years.
Paunda was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. During her lifetime she served the Lord by teaching bible school, Sunday school and playing the piano. Paunda enjoyed traveling and she and Jim took many trips together after their retirement. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Shopping was a favorite hobby and when she physically couldn’t go out she learned she could buy almost anything online or on QVC but that didn’t replace the fun times she had shopping with her best friend Sylvia.
During the last year of her life, Paunda was blessed to be able to stay at home with the help of Southern Care Hospice and her personal caregivers. They spent many hours together with her and she developed a love for them as they did for her. She was also able to keep her favorite companion “Bentley” by her side until the very end.
Survivors include one son, Steve White, and one daughter, Shauna Ames (Chuck), all of Clay City, IN. Grandchildren Paul White (Ashley Kidwell); Canyon Poe, Chandler Ames and Chase Ames (Cydni). Great grandchildren, Mila White; McKenzie Williams, Aria Ames and soon to be Carter Ames.
Paunda has one surviving brother, Jack Riggs (Jackie) and special friend who is considered family, Ethan Reece, wife Whitney and children Khloe and Kambri. She has many special nieces and nephews that she adored.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Jim and son Danny, as well as her brothers, Wayne, Rex, and Bob Riggs and one sister Pauliena West.
A visitation will be held Sunday, July 3rd at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East 8th Street in Clay City from 12-3 P.M. A funeral service officiated by Pastor Bob Dickey will begin at 3 P.M. Burial will follow at Sink Cemetery.
