Martha N. Casida

August 22, 1952 ~ July 10, 2022 (age 69)

f Cloverdale, Indiana passed away Sunday July 10th, 2022 at home with her family by her side. She was born August 22nd, 1952 in Greencastle, Indiana, and grew up on the family farm with her parents and 5 siblings outside of Cloverdale. She graduated from Cloverdale High School in the class of 1970.

Marty held many jobs over the years, but was most proud of her time in the military. She served in the US Navy on the USS Emory S. Land stationed in Norfolk, Virginia as a Hull Technician 2, before transferring to the US Naval Reserves. When the reserve base in Terre Haute, Indiana closed, she transferred to the Indiana National Guard. She served in B Company 38th MSB in Brazil, and retired from the 252nd Ordnance Company at Stout Field, Indianapolis as Sgt Martha Casida.

Her biggest joy in life was raising her daughter. She also enjoyed her cats, Abby and Frankie, as well as many strays over the years. When in good health, you could often find her outside taking care of her flowers and trees. Anyone that knew her, knows about her loud, infectious laugh and no-nonsense attitude. She was stubborn until the very end, never one to be told what she could or couldn’t do.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Arbelle Ogles Casida, her father Glen Rader Casida, her eldest sister Mary Elizabeth Casida McKamey, and brother Michael “Mike” D. Casida.

She is survived by her best friend and daughter, Thelma Shouse, and son-in-law who she referred to as her son, Christopher Russo; brother Ralph (Faye) Casida of Cloverdale; sister Alicia (Harvey) Shaw of Columbus; sister Sheila (Jim) Reeves of Columbus; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
