Edna Ruth (Sutton) Smith, 101, of Coal City, passed away peacefully with family on Thursday, July 28th 2022. Edna Ruth was born on October 1st, 1920, to Harry and Ertice Sutton. Edna Ruth was a 1937 graduate of Coal City High School and a 1938 graduate of Smart Appearance Beauty College. She married the love of her life, Carroll E. Smith on March 19th, 1939.
Edna Ruth was a beautician, a homemaker, a farmer and dairy farmer, and involved in the community and church. Edna Ruth loved to attend basketball games and play euchre. She was a member of the Jefferson Baptist Church in Coal City where she played piano and organ.
Edna Ruth is survived by her son, David E. Smith, daughter, Melanie A. (Tony) Mace; grandchildren, Erin (Dan) Miller, Lyndsay Smith; great grandchildren, Gavin Miller, Caleigh Miller, and Clayton Reichle. Edna Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; parents, Harry and Ertice Sutton, and daughter-in-law, Kris A. Smith.
Visitation will be held at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022 at 11:00 am, with a funeral service immediately following at 1:00 pm. Graveside services will be held at Beech Church Cemetery following the service. Flowers can be sent to Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East Eighth Street, Clay City, Indiana 47841 in advance of the services.
