Avalon L. Hapenny
April 17, 1935 - August 27, 2022
Avalon L. Hapenny, 87 of Brazil, passed away August 27, 2022, at 6:30pm at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility. She had been in failing health since 2016.
She was born April 17, 1935, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Lester Grantham and Mary Gasway Grantham. She graduated from Van Buren High School.
On March 17, 1953, Avalon was united in marriage to Charles Hapenny. They were lifelong members of the Benwood Mt. Lebanon Church. She taught Sunday School, Bible School and helped with AWANA and loved to sing in church. Over the years, she sang with the ladies known as “Gospel Tones” and with her family for church events. Avalon loved her church and her family. She enjoyed having family together for Sunday dinner and holidays. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her children, Mike Hapenny of Knightsville, Annette Royer and husband Darrell of Centerpoint, and Brad Hapenny and wife Kim of Brazil; grandchildren, Anthony Hapenny (Andrea), Adrianne Vradenburg (Mark), Jason Royer (Gina), Dustin Royer (Krissy), Shawn Royer (Sarah), Rachelle Royer, Conner Hapenny, Holly Muncie (Zach), Benjamin Hapenny and Zach Hapenny; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Kaden, Audric, Corvin, Brooklynne, Bristol, Bronx, Hadley, Reese, Dylan, Lily, Cora, and Charlie. Many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester, and Mary Grantham; her husband Charlie Hapenny, January 22, 2011; her brothers, Jack Grantham, and Bob Grantham; one sister Frances McDonald.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 1:00pm at Benwood Christian Church with Pastor Dick McShanog officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church from 11-1:00.
