Tina McDaniel

March 1, 1959-Sept. 5, 2022

After a long battle with cancer, Tina McDaniel, resident of Rockville, passed away in her home surrounded by family and friends on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, at the age of 63.

Tina was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was born to Shelby Norton and Betty Bair on March 1, 1959. She grew up in Crawfordsville and graduated from North Montgomery High School.

As a young girl, Tina was fancied a bit of a tomboy. She spent much of her early years hanging out with her older brother Bruce and sister Susie, enjoying the outdoors, and walking up and down creek beds catching snapping turtles where she met a boy named Mark. Sharing a love for nature and football, Mark and Tina fell in love and got married in 1977. They lived in Jacksonville, North Carolina while Mark was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, but settled in Parke County to raise their family.

They welcomed their daughter, Amy into the world in September 1978 and their son Andy in January 1982. Mark and Tina enjoyed cheering their kids on at the rodeo, teaching them how to hunt and fish and regularly participating in their church community. For the better part of the past two decades, Tina cherished her time at local stadiums watching her grandsons play football and she was so proud to celebrate a state championship victory with Chance, Chase and Cash twice.

Mark and Tina often took to the woods or the water where they enjoyed hunting and fishing together. She was also a master seamstress, sewing industrial boat covers in her job at The Boat Place. Her colleagues were an extension of her family.

In her final days, Tina’s family and friends traveled from all over the country to share their love and support with Tina and her family.

Tina is survived by her husband of 45 years, Mark McDaniel; children, Amy and (James) Bays, Andy and (Sheryl) McDaniel; grandchildren, Chance, Chase (Taya), Cash, Hunter, Hudson and Easton; great-grandchildren, Hank, Asher and Taya; sister Susie (Jack) Query; and brother Bruce (Patty Jo) Norton.

She was preceded in death by parents Shelby Norton and Betty Bair.

Tina was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and put up a truly remarkable fight, traveling to Chicago for treatments and undergoing multiple surgeries. To say that Tina was a strong woman is an understatement. Powered by her faith and the love she had for her family, she fought tirelessly until the very end.

Tina never met a stranger and to every man, woman and child that knew her, she was an inspiration. With unwavering faith in God and her family, Tina persevered for six years with a smile on her face and compassion in her heart. She will be forever cherished by all who knew her and eternally missed by her loving family.

A celebration of life will be held 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at Raccoon Lake State Recreation Area, Bluebird Shelter (look for the bright balloons), 1588 S. Raccoon Parkeway, Rockville.

The family would like to thank all the friends and family who helped getting Tina back and forth to Chicago over the last four years and those who helped with meals for the family.
