Sam Rankin

Samuel “Sam” Edward Rankin, 74, passed away September 12, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family. Sam was born to the late John E. Rankin Jr. and Juanita M. (Bowles) Rankin in Indianapolis on July 6, 1948.

Sam loved riding Harley Davidsons especially on charity rides and hill climbs. When he was 16 years old, he began painting houses and worked as a talented painter for the majority of his life. He loved to go to yard sales, always being sure to get the best deal. He enjoyed attending flea markets where him and his wife, Duquata operated booths. In his free time, Sam enjoyed wood working and crafting items for his family and friends. He loved animals, especially the numerous dogs he had throughout his life. Most importantly, Sam enjoyed spending time with his family and giving them a hard time.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Chad Gehle, brother-in-law, Robert Headley, and a granddaughter, Alauna.

Sam is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Duquata “Dee” Rankin, five children, Carla Jarrett (Billroy), Shawn Marcum, Amanda Blakely, Nicki Sickles (Kenny), and Billy Gehle, grandchildren, Travis, Taylor Mae, Jade, Alexiana, Aleiya, Amaya, Aneila, Ana, Katie, Brittany, Becky, Rachel, Alison, Billy, and Brooke, six great grandchildren, two sisters, Joyce Thompson (Terry), Brenda Byers (Tom), sister-in-law, Bernice Headley, as well as many extended family members. Also surviving are his six dogs, Rusty, Boots, Snowy, Butter (the favorite), Rosie, and Oreo.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 15th from 11-2 at Christ Community Church, 10942 North State Road 59 in Brazil. A funeral service will begin at 2 P.M. officiated by Pastor Richard Laskowski. In accordance with Sam’s wishes cremation will take place following the service.
