Margaret Baratto

Margaret Esther Baratto, 86, passed away peacefully in the morning of September 27, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born to the late David Kenneth and Margaret Armel (Lewis) Brown on June 3, 1936, in Knightsville, Indiana.

Margaret graduated from Brazil High School in 1954 and then attended Indiana State University. She spent her career working as a legal secretary for several attorneys and as a court clerk at the Vigo County Courthouse. On June 10, 1956, Margaret married the love of her life, Gino Baratto, with whom she spent the next 66 years.

Margaret loved cooking and made many meals for her family and her church over the years. Margaret also loved sewing and found the energy to sew fabric face masks during the pandemic. She was a member of Berea Christian Church in Brazil, where she loved helping with the nursery and cooking meals for families. She enjoyed spending her time with friends from TOPS as well over the years. Margaret was very selfless and volunteered to help others, always putting everyone before herself. Above all else, Margaret was a strong, tough, and determined woman. She will be missed and was loved dearly by all of her family.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, twin newborn sons, Jerry Lee Baratto and John David Baratto, mother-in-law Geneive Baratto, two sisters Betty Matherly and Julia Sutherlin, and one brother David K. Brown Jr.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 66 years Gino Baratto, one daughter Becky Chrisman, two granddaughters Christina M. Chrisman and Melissa J. Ries (Cristopher), one sister Sarah M. Brown, sister-in-law Joan Brown, and various nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Saturday, October 8th from 11-1 at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 East National Avenue in Brazil. A funeral service officiated by Ernie Rush will begin at 1 P.M. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute.
