Richard L. Porterfield Jr.

Richard L. Porterfield Jr. of Crawfordsville passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 6, 2022, at home. He was 83.

Dick was a casemaker at RR Donnelley for more than 25 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956-1960, stationed in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose and Eagles. He liked to watch sports, particularly football and baseball. He liked playing golf, drinking a beer, reading the newspaper and doing the crossword puzzle.

Born Dec. 17, 1938, at Redding, California, he was the son of Richard Porterfield Sr. and Catherine Julia Twomey Porterfield. He graduated from Shasta High School and attended Shasta Junior College before his enlistment. He married Patricia “Pat” Delp Porterfield on April 4, 1971, at Ladoga. She preceded him in death July 2, 2017.

Surviving family includes: son Rick (Susie) Porterfield; daughters, Scarlett and Heather; brothers, Steve, Kevin and Cappy; sisters, Delaree and Linda; as well as six grandchildren; along with several members of his extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Greg and two sisters, Julie and Gail.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 at Burkhart Funeral Home. Services will begin at 1 p.m. After the service, he will be laid to rest at the Hicks Cemetery in Perrysville, with military rites by the American Legion Post 72 Honor Guard.
