Ruth June Hamilton

JANUARY 25, 1934 – OCTOBER 12, 2022

Ruth June Hamilton, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at IU Health in Indianapolis. She was born on January 25, 1934, in Terre Haute to Audie Faye and Madeline (Madden) Deckard. She married Carl Arthur Hamilton on June 9, 1956.

Ruth is survived by her children: Debbie Fields and husband Bob of Brazil, Bill Hamilton of Terre Haute, and Chuck Hamilton of Terre Haute; grandchildren: Kristina Fielding and husband Chris, Willie Hamilton, and Austin Hamilton; great-grandchildren: Bailey Fielding, Brielyn Fielding, and Nik Hamilton; a sister-in-law, one niece, and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Ron Hamilton; grandson, Carl Robert Hamilton; a sister, Ida Mae Monroe and a brother, Audie Deckard, Jr.

Ruth was a 1952 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. She worked for several years at White’s Dental Lab and then at Union Hospital in various departments for 15 years. After her retirement, Ruth was a dedicated volunteer for the Service League at Union Hospital.

Ruth’s favorite thing was to spend time with her family. She loved going to the race track with her family and supporting them as they raced. She even took up drag racing, climbing through the ranks of Powder Puff Drag Racing at the Terre Haute Action Dragway. She enjoyed going to yard sales and working at the Covered Bridge Festival alongside her daughter. The gift of time was the best gift, and Ruth cherished every moment she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19 at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 20 at the funeral home.
